The Vice Chancellor, Dennis Osadebay University, Anwai, Asaba, Delta State, Professor Ben. E.A Oghojafor has said that, he was over joyous to had seen the Institution’s First Inaugural Lecture held on Thursday, August 31st , 2023 as he restated commitment to the higher Institution’s Vision and vision statement to be a leading transformation University in Nigeria, globally, he is poised to strategically place the University in the sand of time.
Oghojafor, a Professor of Entrepreneurial & Strategical Management made this remark while fielding questions from some group of Journalists on Thursday, August 31st, 2023 at DOU University’s campus in Asaba, Delta State capital soon after the Inaugural Lecture as delivered by a Professor of Political Science, Professor Robert Oghenedoro Dode.
The first Inaugural Lecture as anchored on the theme: ” Scramble For The Black Gold And Rumbles In The Nigeria Niger-Delta: Yesterday, Today And? was delivered by a Professor of Political Science, who doubles as DOU’s DVC (Academic & Research), Prof Robert Oghenedoro Dode during the lecture advocated for a review of the Nigeria’s Environmental Law & Policy framework, suggested various ways to end militancy and promote socio-economic and sustainable development in the Nigeria’s Niger-Delta Region.
Prof Dode noted that, the degradation of Niger-Delta Environment as a result of the discovery and exploitation of crude oil called “Black Gold” since 1956, after years of colonial administration in Nigeria , which he said led to the rise of militancy in the Niger-Delta Region. He sees militancy as an organization that tends to attract attention to their plight or demands through aggressive means. Also, sees Environment as the totality of living and non-living things including all factors and forces prevailing internally and externally.
According to Dode’s research works as presented during the DOU’s First Inaugural Lecture in Asaba, for Militancy to end in the Niger-Delta Region and the needed socio-economic and sustainable development to thrive in the region, he suggested that, “Nigerian Government should build functional refineries, help citizens to access clean water, financial institutions to help citizens to access credit facilities, FGN not to neglet the Amnesty Program in the Niger-Delta, rather put more effort towards employment opportunities, empowering the Youths in the region, and avoid underdevelopment of Niger-Delta amongst other numerous suggestions.
In a separate interview with the DOU’S Registrar, Mrs Genevieve I. Obadan, she thank the almighty God for the success of the Institution’s First Inaugural Lecture as delivered by Professor Robert Oghenedoro Dode, while she commended all the participants; special invitees- Delta State Government (top Government functionaries), members of the academic community, the entire school management and planning committee; Students, Senate and staff of the institution for gracing the occasion.
