Social Development Integrated Centre (Social Action), has congratulated the newly appointed Chairman, of the Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, and all other members of the governing board of the Commission on their new appointments. The renowned CSO also sets the agenda for the newly inaugurated members.
The media learned this today on Sunday, September 10, 2023, from the management of Social Action in a press statement by its Communications Coordinator, Peter Mazzi, which was made available to some groups of Journalists in Asaba, Delta State capital. The group urges the newly inaugurated members of the NDDC Board to prioritize accountability, restoration of trust, and confidence of the Niger Delta people.
You could recall that, the appointment of the NDDC Board members took effect from Tuesday, 29th August 2023. According to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, “the appointment of new members is expected to usher in a new era of successful administration in the NDDC in line with the present administration’s “Renewed Hope agenda”.
Social Action sees this as a welcome development and urges the newly appointed Board members to focus on restoring the trust and confidence of the people of the Niger Delta region. Social Action leadership stated that the Board should consider this appointment as a call to service and an opportunity to correct any irregularities in NDDC’s operations.
The press statement reads in part: “We want to believe that this administration would immensely benefit the people of the Niger Delta region who have suffered years of stagnated infrastructural growth and massive decline in human capital development”.
“We call on NDDC Board to as a matter of urgency make public and implement the recommendations from the last forensic audit carried out on the Commission and ensure defaulters are brought to book and appropriated funds recovered”.
“We also urge the newly appointed NDDC Board to prioritize Transparency, Accountability, and inclusiveness in its administration, working with members of the communities and involving them in both the Budgeting process and project implementation”.
“Social Action looks forward to a renewed NDDC engendering development of the Niger Delta region under this administration”.
