********ICAN ASABA AND DISTRICT SOCIETY FELICITATES WITH THE GOVERNOR AND THE GOOD PEOPLE OF DELTA STATE ON THE 33RD ANNIVERSARY OF THE STATE’S CREATION AND NIGERIAN 64TH INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION -SAYS DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT’S POLICIES IN TANDEM WITH ICAN CORE VALUES*

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Asaba and District Society felicitates with the Government, the good people of Delta State and the Nigerian nation at large as the country mark her 64th years of National Independence.

While acknowledging the challenging times staring at Nigerian society today, we are not oblivious of the deliberate and concerted efforts being made by the Delta State government in bringing succor to the way of Deltans and transforming the State simultaneously.

We at ICAN Asaba and District Society have witnessed the systematic and progressive trajectory of the State over the past 33 years of its creation, and can only hope to experience more as we share in the dreams of our founding fathers.

  1. On this occasion of the 64th Nigerian Independence Anniversary, we want to express our satisfaction with the present administration of the State ably led by Rt Hon (Elder) Sheriff F. O. Oborevwori (J.P) in the pursuance of the policy thrust of the “MORE AGENDA”.

We observe with keen interest his Economic policy approach which centers on prudence, transparency, accountability, integrity and accuracy. These traits we observe are in tandem with the core values of the ICAN brand.

The fiscal responsibility attitude as manifested in your prudent and transparent management of the resources of the State has led to the drastic reduction of the debt profile, with over N160.9 billion paid, and over N220 billion saved as operational cost. Moreover, within this short period of your administration coming on board, the State has witnessed overwhelming increase in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to about N9 billion monthly, this clearly indicate more transparency and accountability in the affairs of this adadministration.

The above core values obviously increased the people’s confidence in paying their taxes. In addition, the massive and vigorous development of critical infrastructure across the State also demonstrates the transformative capacity of the Government.

  1. The Asaba and District society of the Institute also follow with keen interest, your administration’s focus in the development of human capital resource of the State which is anchored on citizens’ welfare.

This is demonstrated by the payment of over four years of workers promotion arrears, the prompt payment of workers’ monthly salary, the promise to implement the new minimum wage in the State, payment to the State contributory health scheme, payment of monthly pension to workers on the old scheme as well as Government counterpart contribution to the contributory pension scheme.

The Institute also note the smooth conduct of Local Government Election in the State, the prompt release of Local Government allocation and the guarantee of the N40billion loan taken by Local Government Councils to enable them pay off outstanding pension arrears to Primary School Teachers and Local Government Council staff.

This clearly demonstrates the Government’s commitment to good governance and welfare of her citizen.

  1. We are thankful for your continuous support to our Institute particularly, the support towards the South – South zonal Conference of the Institute held in Warri on the 21st – 24th of August, 2024.

We will continue to identify with you on the MORE AGENDA of your administration, and assure you of our availability to offer our professional/Financial advise to the State at all time in a bid to strengthen our partnership with the State Government for the common good of our people.

Congratulations Delta State!
Congratulations Nigeria!!

Signed

Martyns, Edward Obiefuna, FCA
