The Senator restated commitment to SUN’s mission of producing World-class Athletes as he enjoined the newly matriculated undergraduate students, to be diligent in their studies, maintain the habit of focus and discipline as the University successfully Matriculated 98 students in her first and second combined Matriculation ceremony

The media learnt this from SUN Founder & Chancellor, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko during the University’s first and second combined Matriculation ceremony held recently on 6th March, 2025 at the University’s campus, a momentous occasion that brought together students, faculty members, parents, and dignitaries from different parts of the country.

Matriculation refers to formal process of enrolling or becoming student at University or College often involving a ceremony or the fulfillment of specific academic requirements. This is very historic as this marked the first and second combined Matriculation of Nigeria’s, Africa’s first Sports University. The higher institution is committed towards nurturing young Nigerians who are passionate about sports and education.

The Founder and Chancellor, Senator Ned Nwoko, highlighted the university’s vision to revolutionize sports education in Nigeria. While delivering his speech at the event, he emphasized the importance of balancing academics with athletic training, ensuring that students develop holistically as both scholars and athletes. Senator Nwoko reiterated that the Sports University of Nigeria was established to bridge the gap between education and professional sports, equipping students with the necessary skills to excel in both fields.

Most Distinguished Nigerian Senator, Prince Barr Dr Ned Munir Nwoko further stated that the institution is committed to providing state-of-the-art sports facilities, top-tier academic programs, and an enabling environment where young talents can thrive. The Federal Lawmaker then urged the new students to embrace the university’s mission of producing world-class athletes who are not only skilled in their respective sports but also academically sound and globally competitive.

In the words of SUN’s founder & Chancellor, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko: “The matriculation of these 98 students signifies the university’s steady growth and its commitment to providing opportunities for young athletes to excel in both education and sports. By blending sports with academics, the institution aims to produce professionals who can compete at both national and international levels”.
