As part of efforts towards encouraging access to efficient and cost effective health services aimed at improving the living standards of the survivors of Sexual And Gender Based Violence – SGBV and promotion of steady power supply in Oleh Community Primary Health Centre, a reputable International Non-governmental Organization based in Delta State, “Courageous Girls Women & Children Initiative (CGWCI)” under the leadership of Igbide born Gender Activist, CGWCI Founder/Executive Director, Ms Ayovuata Courage Uyoyou in partnership with Delta State Government & MitchelEE Engineering Integrated Services recently installed a free 2.5KVA Off-grid Solar Energy System to power the Primary Health Centre in Oleh Community, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The media learnt this today being on Wednesday June 28, 2023 from CGWCI Founder/Executive Director, Ms Ayovuata Courage Uyoyou while fielding questions from some group of Journalists in her NGO’s office at Asaba, Delta State capital as she reacted to the media questions on the outcome of her group’s partnership with Delta State Government and MitcheEE Engineering Integrated Services on recent Commissioning of the free 2.5KVA Off-grid Solar Energy System installed to power the Primary Health Centre in Oleh Community, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, her NGOs Achievements over the years as it concerns the SDGs.

Ms Ayovuata Courage Uyoyou stated as part of her organizations achievements, that CGWCI kept its promises to Deltans, Nigerians as well as the rest of world in the thematic areas of protecting minors, young girls and women against Sexual Gender Based Violence in Delta State and beyond. She added that the above feats in the health, power sectors as achieved is part of her organization’s efforts towards improving the living standards of the SGBV survivors while achieving the health sustainable development goals (SDGs).

She noted further that, CGWCI Green Energy Project was conceived towards ensuring that Primary Health Centres become accessible to huge numbers of SGBV survivors through the provision of solar energy systems to power the facilities as inability to access health facilities has created evidential dilemmas in prosecuting SGBV cases and perpetuators of this menace. It was on this note that we matriculated a group of 100 young women between the ages of 18-35 years including some SGBV survivors into a six(6) months intensive training on Solar Energy System Installation and Maintenance which started on the 11th of October 2022 as the world celebrated the International Day of the Girl-Child, where upon culmination of the training specifically 31st March 2023, they were further engaged in a one(1) month group work upon which they visited the primary health center in Oleh community on thursday 18th – Saturday 20th May 2023 to practically demonstrate their knowledge by installing a 2.5kva Solar Energy System to power the facility for this particular interventions. This was enabled with the support of our technical partner, MitchelEE Engineering Integrated Services who ensured that the project was a success.

According to her, the commissioning took place pen-ultimate weekend and the entire Oleh community people, critical stakeholders; traditional ruler, youths, women and others had commended our Initiatives, prayed for the entire staff and members of CGWCI to had implemented their Green Energy Project. The staff of Oleh Community Primary Health Centre couldn’t hold back their excitement as they sang, danced and prayed for CGWCI staff.

Ms Ayovuata Courage Uyoyou had quoted some of the Community leaders, critical stakeholders that graced the commissioning of the project. In the words of Chief Edo Umuakpero, Secretary of Oleh Council of Chiefs who represented H.R.M, Anthony Williams Onovughe Ovrawah JP, The Traditional Ruler of Oleh Kingdom: “The Health Centre had never had its own electricity source before. We sincerely commend the CGWCI Founder/Executive Director, Ms Ayovuata Courage Uyoyou and her partners, Delta State Government, MitcheEE Engineering Integrated Services, Elomaz Foundation, Rainluz Nigeria Limited and Africa Network for Empowerment Unity and Development on this great achievements”. Also, in the words of the Executive Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area represented by Hon Vantus Ogbroghro, Secretary To The Local Government, : “We have not seen a partner like this before”.

CGWCI Boss then listed the critical stakeholders that graced the event which included amongst others namely: Representative of The Traditional Ruler of Oleh Kingdom, Chief Edo Umuakpero and the Oleh Council of Chiefs, Chairman of the Isoko South Local Government Council represented by Hon Vantus Ogbroghro, Secretary to the Isoko South Local Government Council, President General of Oleh Community, Chief Believe Alakri, Comr. Julius Malam-Obi, President of the Africa Network for Empowerment Unity and Development who functioned as the Chairman of the occasion, Engr Mitchell Okiroro Ayovuata, CEO of MitchelEE Engineering Integrated Services , Members Board of Trustees of the Courageous Girls Women and Children Initiative,Divisional Police Officer, Oleh Division, CSP George Omuno, Executive Secretary Isoko South LocaI Government Council PHC Dr. Jesus Eze, Matron Mrs Afor Atedezi, Mrs Hope Ayovuata, Mr. Eziomano Jerry Odugala, Mr Richard Ayovuata Rtd. and Omoigho Batty Ejebe .

Ayovuata noted amongst other achievements that; CGWCI has supported SGBV survivors to access free medical services, educational support services
through vocational skill trainings, SGBV advocacy/ awareness; economic empowerment of women and girls , seeking Justice for SGBV survivors, trained women and girls including SGBV survivors to become solar energy technicians and actualization of other SDGs and the energy transition drive of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Ms Ayovuata Courage Uyoyou added that, her organization will continue to partner other stakeholders and build referrals to the Oleh Primary Health Centre so that more SGBV survivors can be able to access this center at little or no cost to ensure they receive adequate medical attention and records of their situations taken which would be used as a form of advocacy, seeking justice for SGBV survivors and promoting empowerment Initiatives for women and girls. She called on the State Government to continue partnership with CGWCI as well as the federal government towards improving on the Solar Energy System Project for Survivors of SGBV to have access to better health facilities, power supply in Primary Healthcare Centres in Delta State and Nigeria in general as she also used the medium to commend all those other critical stakeholders who graced the occasion.
